Fluorocarbon Fishing Lines

You are here: FishingLinePursuit > Fluorocarbon Fishing Lines

Fluorocarbon lines are a popular choice among many fishermen, and so no true fishing line review site could be complete without a review of the best fluoro lines available.

Denser and heavier than monofilament lines, fluorocarbon lines make the perfect choice for many experienced hats and beginners alike.

What Is Fluorocarbon Line and When Is It Used?

Fluorocarbon line is a popular type of line due to two things; density and abrasion resistance. (Okay there's another, but we'll get to that)

Since these lines are packed tightly with molecules they're much more dense than mono lines, and this means fluoro is perfect for fishing in the depths.

Whether you want to get to the bottom of a deep lake, or off the end of the pier you're likely to want a fluorocarbon line.

These types of line are also known for being nearly 'invisible' to the fish, and this is important for a line that's going to sit at the sea bed.

The other benefit of abrasion resistance is a big one, these lines offer great durability and can offer you a lot of security against debris and other nuisances that the water might bring into play.

Fluoro lines are well-known for their versatility when it comes to tying different kinds of knots, and this is just another added benefit of the strength these lines provide, of which they are king in the realm of strength which is one of the most important considerations when talking about fishing lines.

How To Use Fluorocarbon Fishing Line:

If you want to use this line, you should have a little bit of experience with fishing to begin with. This is because this line is somewhat more specialized.

Fluorocarbon is a magnificent line-type to have at your disposal, but it's best used in situations where you need the sinking property, the strength and abrasion resistance to be top quality.

These fishing lines can be used in salt water as well as fresh water, and are typically used for going after bigger fish, or fish that live at the bottom of the 'bed' such as Catfish.

Typically these lines do have excellent transmission, but due to this and their inherent strength, certainly lack an amount of dynamism and flexibility.

However due to Fluoros low visibility it's still a very popular choice in fly fishing.

Fluorocarbon Fishing Line Reviews & Comparisons:

Seagular Invizx:

best fluorocarbon fishing line?

Seagular Invizx is a top Fluorocarbon line that's highly rated, with great reviews even on the dreaded Amazon... Here's what you need to know!

The Seagular Invizx line is a good, strong line and it's suitable for fresh and salt water fishing. Like all fluoro lines it's barely visible, and this brand does a great job of that with this line.

With an incredibly easy spool, and little to no memory it's a great line, and the abrasion resistance itself isn't shabby either. This line does particularly well in cold waters, so it's worth bearing in mind if you're looking for that type of line from a fluoro.

  • The brand is trusted, and this line is highly recommended by fishers other than just myself!
  • Offers up to 1000 yards of line if you buy the most popular one over on Amazon.
  • Well suited in a number of situations, a great versatile line that's worth having if you don't have any fluoro yet.
  • Easy to spool, low memory and good abrasion resistance.

Pros and Cons:

  • Easy to spool.
  • No to little memory.
  • Versatile
  • Not the strongest line out there.
  • Not very visible, which is bad for some scenarios.

The Verdict:

Seagular Invizx is one of the top fluorocarbon lines out there period, and for a good reason.

Seaguar Invizx Fluorocarbon 200-Yards Fishing Line (17-Pounds)
  • Fluoro premier has 42% more knot strength than leading Fluorocarbon competitors
  • Made from 100% Seaguar resins and produced using our proprietary extrusion process
  • Abrasion resistant

Sunline Super FC Sniper:

sunline fc sniper review

Another of the top fluorocarbon lines is the Sunline Super FC Sniper.

This line is popular, and quite different from the Seagular Invizx. First, on Amazon you can purchase up to 1200 yards of this line.

Other important distinctions with this line, is the fact that it offers extreme abrasion resistance, making it great for heavy cover.

  • Extreme abrasion resistance for a fluoro line.
  • Offers the benefits of a fluoro line despite being more abrasion resistant.
  • A deceivingly strong line according to reviews I read, and in my experience I've never had any line breaks.

Pros and Cons:

  • Extremely durable.
  • Good transmission.
  • Very abrasion resistant.
  • Not as great spool wise.
  • Mixed reports about tangles.
  • Lack of stretch, which can be a con in some cases.

The Verdict:

A top quality fluoro line with a lot to offer, hard to say whether it's the best fluorocarbon line available, but some people certainly prefer it.

In my opinion it's worth having some available, but always read the Amazon reviews first to get an idea of potential issues that might make you think twice.

Sunline 63039820 Super FC Sniper Fluorocarbon Fishing Line, 660-Yard, 8-Pound, Natural/Clear
  • Extreme abrasion resistance
  • Excellent for heavy cover applications
  • Uniform line diameter
  • Triple resin coating for softer supple handling

P-Line Floroclear:

p-line floroclear review

This line is the last on my list, as I refer to her as 'old faithful'... Anyway, the P-Line Floroclear Fluorocarbon Line (mouthful) is worth a spot on this list and here's why...

This line is all about quality, it's not trying to reinvent the wheel or offer you anything special. It's just trying to focus on the few things that matter and do them really well.

In a fluorocarbon line we typically want the visibility to be low, we want to be able to tie some good knots and have an easy ability to cast and so on.

This line delivers that and it's very reliable, it's arguably not the best in any one individual category, but on average it is the most balanced for me.

  • Silicone treated to increase castability.
  • The same silicone treatment helps reduce memory of the line.
  • Very good fluorocarbon line in terms of visibility.

Pros and Cons:

  • Works well on a variety of reels.
  • Good for beginners.
  • Great all-round line.
  • Can be difficult to tie a knot as it's hard to see.
  • Not as abrasion resistant as other lines.
  • Not the strongest out of the lines on this list.

The Verdict:

This line is very beginner friendly, it's a great all-rounder and it's worth remembering that sometimes what you want is performance and reliability to be about 50/50, if that's so then the P-Line Floroclear is the best choice.

P-Line Floroclear Filler Spool (300-Yard, 6-Pound)
  • Flor clear's Fluorocarbon coating causes the line to virtually become invisible once it enters the water
  • This gives anglers the advantage of a more stealthy presentation, which will guarantee more strikes and hookups
  • With a special silicone treatment, has reduced memory and increased stability
  • Virtually Invisible
  • Superior Knot Strength
